D-Link DCS-920

$120.00 Released April, 2008

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Simple to setup with the provided package (must be connected by wire during setup). Good wireless throughput, provides a smooth picture streaming over the internet. One of the cheapest wireless webcam on the market, does not skim on features.

The Cons:64-bit version of the bundled software does not support certain features such as recording. No IR illumination, essentially useless in dark conditions. Requires software to be installed for certain functions to work such as the motion sensor.

The D-Link DCS-920 is a budget-friendly wireless network camera that serves as a competitor to equally priced conventional web cams. As an upgrade from the DCS-910, the DCS-920 adds along wireless connectivity so that it can be placed in areas that have no access to a standard wired hookup (ceilings, high walls).

Like its counterpart, it serves as a competitor to traditional webcams, as it offers advanced options like remote viewing and remote management. Unfortunately the DCS-920 is also restricted to a VGA maximum resolution. Additional features include WPA wireless encryption, and the ability to schedule video recordings that can then be automatically uploaded to an FTP server or transmitted via email.
