Netgear's XETB1001 85 mbps Powerline AV Ethernet Adapter Kit is a network in a box. Instead of the costly installation of Ethernet lines, homeowners can now use the two adapters included in the kit to transform their existing powerlines into high speed connections.

First, an adapter is connected to a router, connected to a broadband modem. The second adapter is then plugged in and an Ethernet-equipped device (such as a PC, laptop, TiVo or game console) can be connected to the Ethernet port to become part of the network, capable of sharing internet and data such as games and documents at the 85 mbps speed mentioned in the title. For security, the network is also encrypted. Additional adapters must be purchased to network more devices, and it has been noted by some critics that the adapters may block other outlets when plugged in. The XETB1001 also includes an installation guide, setup CD, Ethernet cable, warranty card, support and information card, and a 1 year warranty.
